What does my coaching involve?

Recipe for success

Today a PM leader asked me what kind of topics I work on in my exec coaching practice. It is very dependent on where the client is at, and where they want to go. With that in mind, here follows a non-exhaustive, unordered list :)

It doesn't contain many "functional" topics like process, choosing KPIs, etc. As I've explained before, my clients are folks who already good at those parts of their role and are seeking to accelerate their career by focusing on how they show up.

  • Relationship building

  • Understanding other people and their motivations

  • Developing more agency in your role

  • Boundary setting

  • Pushing back more effectively / saying no in ways that are helpful to others

  • Establishing and maintaining work life balance

  • Figuring out what’s next (stay, adapt, go)

  • Being a new manager

  • Growing your reports

  • Building new habits / reducing reliance on self-limiting behaviours

  • Communication skills

  • Getting a different perspective

  • Collaboration styles

  • Dealing with imposter syndrome

  • Coping with change

  • Helping others cope with change

  • Making the most of time off

  • Storytelling

  • Handling feedback

  • Sharing feedback with others

  • Managing upwards (managers, skips and senior leaders)

We are usually working on a couple of these areas and as we make progress we identify other topics for future focus.
