Accelerating careers in product management

Why do successful people hire a coach?

All of my clients have successful careers, mostly in product management at tech companies. Before they’ve even started working with me they already have all of the core skills covered: product sense, critical thinking, cross-functional collaboration, communication and leadership. Most of them are seeking to change something about how they work, or how they feel about their work.

By the time a client brings up an issue with me they have likely already tried to address it at least a couple of different ways. They are smart and they are good at solving problems but sometimes they get stuck.

Am I a better problem solver than all my clients? Of course not. However, I often have a different perspective on a problem and that’s something which can be hard to elicit on one’s own. “I’ve already tried every approach I know, and nothing’s worked”, is a phrase I hear quite frequently.

I’m not teaching anyone how to be a product manager. I’m helping strong PMs to abandon their self-limiting habits and create different, better ways to respond to the challenges they face.
